The Effectiveness of Cognitive – behavioral Group Education with Positive Therapy Approach on Depression in Mazandaran University Female Student

Abstract

Background and Objective: Effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy on depression with a positive approach to students.
Method: This semi-experimental study included pre-test - post-test. 20 female students at the dormitory of Mazandaran University of 2014-2015 years, randomly were selected and were assigned to two experimental and control groups. The experimental group received 10 sessions,of cognitive - behavioral therapy with a positive approach. Dysfunctional Attitude Scale, Beck Depression Inventory and the subjects before and after they graduate were used as instruments.
Results: Analysis of variance showed that the mean scores of depression and dysfunctional attitudes in both control and experimental groups compared with before and after the intervention had a significant difference (p< 0/05).
Conclusion: cognitive – behavioral education with positive therapy approach have effect on reducing depression and dysfunction attitudes of students.
