The Effectiveness of Emotion Regulation Training on Chronic and Coping Strategies of the Mothers of Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Abstract

Background and Objective: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is one of the most common psychiatric disorders in children. The present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of emotion regulation training on chronic and coping strategies of the mothers of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Methods: In this semi-experimental research a pre-post test and a control group was conducted on 36 mothers of the children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder Environmental research were Mofatteh clinics and rain clinics in Yasouj city in 2014. All mothers with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder children completed fatigue Krupp scale and coping strategies then those with cut off-point score (above 36) were selected. The data was analyzed by covariance analysis at the significant level p< 0.01 by SPSS software (Version 21). Results: In intervention group, the mean score of chronic fatigue and problem- oriented coping strategies decreased from 47.2 5±7.79 to 30.35±8.45 after intervention.35±8. (p<0.01) and from 25.48 (p<0.01).The mean of problem-oriented coping strategies increased from 51.68±14.14 to 67.6±25.19 after intervention, but there was no significant differences between mean. favoidance- oriented coping score after and before intervention. Conclusion:Emotion regulation training reduced chronic fatigue and improved coping skills in mothers with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder children.
