The Relationship between Body Image and Marital Satisfaction with Sexual Functioning; among of Married Women in Science and Research Branch – Khuzestan

Abstract

  Background and Objective:Research has demonstrated that disruptions to sexual functioning are prevalent among men and women. research has identified that disrupted sexual functioning can lead to psychological distress and relationship problems. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between body image and marital satisfaction with sexual functioning; among married women in Science and Research Branch – Khuzestan have been done. Methods: This research was a descriptive analytical Sample population including the, married women students in Science and Research Branch – Khuzestan (n=204) that were selected for sampling. The instruments used in this study were, sexual function questionnaire FSFI, body image questionnaire BISC and Enrich marital satisfaction questionnaire. Statistical analysis was performed using Pearson correlation and multiple regressions Results:Findings show that the mean of overall sexual functioning 57.58 and the mean of body image 26.71 and the correlation of sexual functioning and marital satisfaction was 0.43. So there is a relationship between body image and marital satisfaction with sexual functioning (desire, arousal, lubricating, orgasm and pain) (p=0.001). Body image and marital satisfaction predict %22 variance of sexual functioning. Conclusion:Regarding to findings, marital satisfaction is a good predicator to sexual functioning. Marital satisfaction has a positive and meaningful relationship with sexual functioning. There are multiple relations between marital satisfaction and sexual functioning and all its components and body image. Keywords: Sexual function, Marital satisfaction, Body Image, Students.
