Examining marital burnout, the power of acceptance, happiness and emotion regulation in spouses of infertile men and spouse of male infertility

Abstract

Background and Objective: A few psychological studies have done in spouses of infertile men. Hence this study compared the marital burnout, the power of acceptance, happiness and emotion regulation in spouses of infertile men and spouse of fertile men.
Methods: The method study was causal-comparative. The study population consisted of all infertile couples referred to private centers related to infertility and their wives in the summer of 1395 were fertile men working in these centers. 50 spouses of infertile men and 50 fertile men were spouses of available sampling method were selected as sample. Data collection tools include marital burnout, acceptance, Oxford Happiness and Emotion Regulation Questionnaires. Data were analyzed by independent t test using SPSS 21.0.
Results: The results showed that there was a significant difference between spouses of infertile men and spouse of fertile men on marital burnout, happiness and emotion regulation (p < 0.05). Based on the averages of spouses of infertile men had higher marital boredom (M= 52.12±2.54 vs. M= 49.90±2.31) and lower levels of happiness (M= 39.72±2.51 vs. M= 47.72±2.75) and emotion regulation (M= 48.38±2.15 vs. M= 55.28±2.55) compared to spouses of fertile men. However, there was not a significant difference in the power of acceptance between them.
Conclusion: It can be concluded that spouses of infertile men are more subjected to the marital burnout, emotion dysregulation, and low level of happiness.
