The effectiveness of group psychotherapy on marital satisfaction and quality of life based on Choice Theory

Background and Purpose: Decrease in marital satisfaction and a sense of dissatisfaction among the important issues that married women were housewives and their quality of life is common. This study investigates the effect of group therapy based on the theory that an approach for monitoring and behavior, take responsibility and do the right choices on marital satisfaction and improved quality of life, is married housewife.

Material and Methods: A quasi-experimental, pretest and posttest with control group. The population of all married women were housewives referred to counseling centers of Ilam and sample consisted of 60 women, the sampling were chosen and divided into two experimental and control groups were replaced by two groups in the pretest were the women who the experimental group received 10 sessions choice theory and the post-test was administered to both groups. In order to marital satisfaction and quality of life data from questionnaires were used.

Results: Wilcoxon test results showed that after intervention significant differences in marital satisfaction and quality of life scores in experimental and control groups, respectively (p< 0/05).

Discussion and conclusion: Choice Theory improves marital satisfaction and quality of life of a housewife married women referred to Ilam counseling is effective. Respectful environment, emotions and empathic understanding in group therapy is effective in increasing marital satisfaction and quality of life.
