The Role of Identity Styles and Resiliency in Prediction of Mobile Phone Addiction

Abstract

Background and Objective: Personality traits may predispose individuals tend to be excessive use of mobile phones. Thus the aim of this study was to investigate The role of identity styles and resiliency in prediction of addiction to advanced connection devices (such as mobile or tablet) in the university students.
Methods: The sample of the study consisted of 111 (86 female and 25 male) was a freshman at the University Kharazmi were selected using stratified random proportion. Participants completed identity styles, resiliency questionnaires and mobile phone addiction (According to Yang form of Internet addiction) .The obtained data were analyzed by Pearson correlation and regression analysis methods.
Results: The results showed that there was a negative significant correlation between commitment and normative identity with mobile phone addiction. Identity confusion also has a positive correlation and the highest correlation score between the three types of identity with the addiction variable. On the other hand, there was no significant correlation between the resiliency and criterion variable.
Conclusion: According to the results of this study can be said that people with identity confusion, and low commitment, are more susceptible to mobile phones addiction. In fact, the mobile addiction can be predicted based on the level of commitment and identity styles, but the resiliency is not as a significant predictor of this type of addiction.
