The Role of Parent-Child Conflict and Attributional Styles in Prediction of Social Adjustment in Adolescent Girls

Abstract

Background and Objective: Family factors, including the quality of relationships between adolescent and their parents and also the way they interpret this relationships, can affect the social adjustment of adolescents. Thus, the aim of this study was Prediction of adolescent girls social adjustment based on parent-adolescent conflict and Attributional Styles.
Method: The research method was descriptive and correlational. The study population included all the high school students in the boroujerd city in the 2013-2014 school year that 300 of them were selected as Sample via Multistage cluster sampling method. The questionnaires that was used in this research, has been included of parent-adolescent conflict Questionnaire (PACQ), attribution style questionnaire (ASQ)  and scale of social adjustment. In this study to data analyzing, statistical tests including Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise regression were used.
Results: results showed that there is a significant relationship between parent-Adolescent conflict and adolescents social adjustment (p<0/01), whereas relationship between Attributional Styles and social adjustment was not significant. Finally, in order to prediction of adolescents Social adjustment, Results showed that parent-child conflict could predict 0.4 of social adjustment variable.
Conclusion: According to the results of this study can be said that Conflict between parents and children can be predictive to reduce social adjustment in adolescence, But the attributional styles of adolescents in this study could not predict their social adjustment.
