The Effect of Group Therapy-bahavioral Training on PMS Impulsive Behaviors of the Female Students of University of Tehran

Abstract

Background and Objective: Premenstrual syndrome symptoms as irritability and readiness for physical illnesses appear interfere in women's lifestyle and social relations so seriously.So the purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of group therapy cognitive-behavioral training on PMS impulsive behaviors of female students of University of Tehran.
Method: This is an experimental study with a pretest-posttest control group. The sample includes 500 female students of Tehran University in 2013-2014. 160 numbers of students in PMS monthly ID table, fill out the Impulsive Behavior questionnaire (trait - state) Spielberger. Students who had the symptoms of PMS and got the score more than 65, were selected. Finally, 20 persons formed the sample who were placed in experimental groups (n = 10) and control group (n = 10) through random designation. The experimental group during the nine 90-minute sessions (2 times a week) on cognitive - behavioral group was trained.
Results: The analysis of covariance showed that the mean scores of impulsive behavior students in the experimental and control groups after the intervention had no significant difference compared to before (p< 0/05).
Conclusion: The findings of this study show that cognitive-behavioral group training is effective in reducing anger caused by PMS.
