Background and Objective: Parenting styles has a most short-term and long-term outcomes on children. This research aimed to investigate the relationship between parenting styles of parents with self-handicapping and self-efficacy among clients. Method: This research was a descriptive analytical study of correlation type. The statistical population of this research included all clients relief committee of Imam Khomeini (rah) of Urmia city in 2014 year. Out of them 342 person (189 female and 153 male) were selected by stratified randomly sampling method. All of them completed the questionnaire of parenting styles, self-handicapping and self-efficacy. The data was analyzed by method of Pearson’s correlation and multivariate regression with using the SPSS-19 software. Results: The findings showed a negative and significant relationship between authoritative style with self-handicapping and a positive and significant relationship between authoritarian and permissive styles with self-handicapping. Also, there is a positive and significant relationship between authoritative style with self-efficacy and a negative and significant relationship between authoritarian, permissive and inattentive styles with self-efficacy (p≤0/01). In addition, parenting styles of parents significantly could predict 67 percent of variance of self-handicapping and 61 percent of variance of self-efficacy (p≤0/0005). Conclusion: we Parenting styles of parents can play a major role on self-handicapping and self-efficacy. Therefore, suggest that counselor and clinical psychology design appropriate programs for education parenting styles for intervention in self-handicapping and self-efficacy of clients.
