The Relationship between Perceived Parenting Styles and Self- efficacy in Loneliness of Secondary Students

Abstract

Background and Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate the role of perceived parenting styles (warmth, involvement and autonomy support) and self- efficacy in loneliness of secondary students. Method: The research method was correlation al one. Statistic society was all female and male secondary students that were studying in the 2012- 2013 academic year. 170 students were selected through the method of random cluster sampling and responded to perceived parenting style scale, general self- efficacy questionnaire and the loneliness scale. The gathered data were analyzed by Pearson’s correlation coefficient and stepwise regression analysis. Results: Research results showed that there was negative significant relationship between perceived parenting styles (warmth, involvement and autonomy support) with loneliness. The results also showed that, there were negative significant relationships between self- efficacies with loneliness. Finally, the results of stepwise regression analysis showed that the warmth of parents and self- efficacy could negatively predict 30 percents of variance of loneliness. Conclusion: The results of present study support the importance of perceived parenting styles and self - efficacy in loneliness among secondary students.
