Comparison of Learning Strategies, Hardiness and Worry between Thalassemia and Normal Peoples

Abstract

Background and objective: Thalassemia creats physical , mental and social problems for patients. Life for these people with fatigue, weakness, loss of learning and neurosis, and people are able to experience life like normal people and not healthy. Every success depends on having the ability to learn, regardless of concerns about being sick and hard-working, and the ability of the strategies and techniques that are needed, if any, will be successful in learning. The aim of this study was to compare the strategies of learning, hard work and concern for thalassemia patients and normal individuals.
Methods: The method of this study was cause-effect that was carried out in 2014 year. The statistical population included thalassemia and normal people in Amol city who had educated high school or higher. From them 30 thalassemia and 30 normal people randomly were selected that had 16-25 age. The instruments of research were learning strategies questionnaire of pintrich and et al (α = 0.87), worry questionnaire of Stober and Joorman (α = 0.95) and hardiness questionnaire of Kobasa (α = 0.89). Gathered data were analyzed via independent samples t test.
Results: According to t (58) = -2.01, t (58) = -2.33 and t (58) = 6.52, there was difference between thalassemia learners and normal people significantly.
Conclusion: Findings showed that learning strategies and hardiness of normal peoples was higher than of thalassemia patients but worry of thalassemia patients was higher than of normal people.
