Knowledge and Attitudes of Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences in the Field of Health and Food Safety

Abstract

Abstract ^[1]   Background and Objective: The role and importance of food safety on health protection and human health and preventing disease is well known. This study aimed to evaluate the students ' Knowledge and attitudes in the field of Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences, Public Health and Food Safety. Methods:. This cross-sectional study using a valid and reliable self-report questionnaire among 338 students from the Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences. They were selected through random sampling. Questionnaire was designed to contain questions on personal data, awareness of hygiene and food safety. SPSS16 software was used to analyze the abtained data.   Results: The results showed that 46 % of the students had good, 48 % moderate , and 5/4 % had poor knowledge on health and food safety . Awareness about safety and food hygiene scores correlated significantly with any of the parameters age, education , gender , and school did not (p> 0.05). Between levels there was no significant correlation with sex and school (p<0.05) , but the degree of association between age group and education level of consciousness is not statistically significant (p> 0.05). Conclusion: Awareness towards hygiene and food safety is an important issue . Although the students in this study had a fairly good knowledge , the necessity to enhance their awareness of the need for a more detailed plan is felt.
