Background and Objective: Biological characteristics of the mothers (height, age, nutrition, history of disease, drugs and substances abuse, blood groups and duration of pregnancy) have fundamental role in having handicapped children. This study aimed tomakea comparison of biological characteristics between mothers of mental retardation and mothers of normal childin Rural Kermanshah. Methods: In this causal- comparative research, 400 mothers (200 mothers of mental retardation children and 200 mothers of normal children), that were selected by random sampling and multi-stage sampling, responded the Checklist that has made by researcher. After collecting data, the researcher analyzed them by T-test and Chi square. Results: The finding indicated that there is significant difference (p< 0/01) between mother’s age, mother’s age at marriage, duration of pregnancy, nutrition, and history of disease, drugs and substances abuse, blood groups in two study groups. But there is no significant difference (p< 0/01) between mother’s age at birth child and mother's height in the two study groups. Conclusion: Results showed that there are difference between Biological characteristics of the mothers of mental retardation children and Biological characteristics mothers of normalchildren. Therefore, with studying biological variables, researchers would be able to investigate on prevention of handicapping and finally improve physical and psychological health in society.
