Relationship between Mental Health and Quality of Life in Pregnant Women

Background and Objective: Pregnancy considered as a vulnerable period that confront women to many new problems. Facing with new condition and problems can affect the mental health and quality of life of pregnant women. This study was conducted to identify the relationship between mental health and quality of life in pregnant women.
Methods: The present study is a correlation al, exploratory quantitative study. The sample includes 315 pregnant women managed by health centers at ShahinShahr Isfahan. Sampling was convenience. Participants completed General Health Questionnaire (GHQ) and SF-36 obtained. Data was analyzed with spearman correlation coefficient and chi square test. Significant level of statistical test was less than 0.05.
Results: Domains Physical function related to quality of life were correlated significantly with 3 domains of mental health: anxiety (p=0.004), social function (p=0.001) and depression (p=0.012). Somatoform symptoms were correlated significantly with mental health domain of quality of life (p=0.02). Finally, social function was correlated significantly with social dysfunction domain of life quality (p=0.01).
Conclusion: With regard to the significant correlation between mental health and quality of life in pregnant women, it is suggested that designing and executing appropriate interventions to promote mental health and quality of life of these women is necessary.
