The Characteristics of Good Teacher Based on View Points of Students and Teachers: A Qualitative Study

Background and Objective: Faculty members are the most important factors in achieving desired goals of education and their characteristics will facilidate the learning process. This study explored the characteristics of a good teacher, perspective of faculty and students of Amol University of Medical Science, Nursing and  Midwifery School.
Methods: This qualitative study was conducted using semi-structured interviews with twenty participants including faculty and nursing student of Amol Nursing and Midwifery School.
Result: The emerged themes in this study were" Research "and" Individual characters". The Subthemes of "Research " includes" scientific mastery, transmission power, interest in teaching, assessment and evaluation and teaching methods" and subthemes of " individual personality " includes "individual character, self-reliance and apparent cover".
Conclusion: According to the results revealed power of knowledge and being knowledgeable in the subject matter and also characters of personality were as the most important criteria of good teacher based on faculty members' and students' viewpoints.
